Literature of the “real world” and literature in the supernatural life are two things that could be seen in many different views. Individuals seek knowledge and pleasure from writing about the supernatural life. Writing about the real world could sometimes be boring and just overall plain. Supernatural living is like the life that some of us individuals always wanted. It is basically our fantasy all thought out. The unexplainable things that could happen in life.
Literature of supernatural life is entertaining because of all the different things that could be looked upon. There are so many things that could be written about. You have all these different types of scary and spooky creatures and animals that send chills down your spine. Supernatural beliefs are cool in my opinion because of all the other ideas that lay behind them. An example of a supernatural belief is that Jesus could walk on water. While this could be and could not be true it is still extraordinary significant the power Jesus had. The supernatural life is a life full of adventure stories and full of scientific research. Each creature in a supernatural film/text has their own meaning. For example, a vampire most of the time would mean a blood sucking individual with the intention to kill people secretly. Another example of supernatural life are Gods, this is because of the great power that they posses in them. In the story “Goblin Market” by Christina Rossetti, the goblins played a major supernatural role. There role was to poison the two girls without them even knowing. They got to poison one girl but the other one was wise enough to stay away from the goblins and not get lead into their trap. Supernatural beings are always tricking or dare deviling. A supernatural character will not always be good, they most of the time play an evil character.
I believe humans continue to produce literature of the supernatural because of the excitement and the trill that is behind it. Individuals can write about all the things that they would ever want to do in life by writing supernatural literature. The dreams and goals of humans come out as they think of supernatural thoughts. This leads to the expression of an individual’s thoughts by expressing themselves in supernatural writing. By doing this they could make up stories that sound real but are actually very fake. Supernatural writing is always unrealistic but could sometimes sound realistic when they are put out in certain ways. Not every individual believes in supernatural literature. Like everything else in life, you have someone that goes hard for it and some individuals who don’t care at all.
Many characters in supernatural texts have come upon people who don’t believe in them at all. When people think of supernatural they think of spooky and sci-fi. This is true because supernatural deals with anything beyond the control of nature. The unexplainable things in life all lead to supernatural. Not everything in supernatural life could be explained without the laws of nature. It is something that is not physical or material. Anything supernatural is caused by forces that could not be explained by science. This type of literature attracts readers because of the chills and unexplainable thoughts that are within these texts.
In conclusion, supernatural writing will always be produced because of the different types of thoughts it gives individuals. Everyone looks at it in a different perspective. Some individuals can take supernatural literature as a joke and some could actually think that is something that is possible in life. These events and characters in supernatural texts aren’t things that can’t happen but things that actually are controllable from happening. Supernatural literature will always be more exciting and eventful then “real world” literature because of the different settings and events that could take place.

Midterm Essay Rewrite

In the poem “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” I believe the author Dylan Thomas is trying to give the reader a lesson in which to not take life for granted and to live life to the fullest. The speaker is trying to say that once you’re an old man you should try to make the most out of life. In my opinion, Dylan Thomas tries to teach a lesson in this poem so that people could stay in the right path in their life.
At the beginning of the poem the speaker tells someone not to “go gentle into that good night”. The speaker is using the word “night” as a metaphor for death. In line 2, he states “old age should burn and rave at close of day” by this he means that the sunset could be the approach of someone’s death. I believe that the speaker is trying to say that once you see the sunset coming down you should take that as a sign of death.
In stanza 2, the speaker says “Though wise men at their end know dark is right” by this he meant that men know when they are about to die. In line 6 he is trying to say that when people die sometimes they didn’t achieve their goals in life. Meaning by this is that some people never really get to do what they always wanted to do in life. In stanza 3 the author tries to use a way of figurative speech by stating "Crying how bright their frail deeds might have danced”. By bright the author is trying to imply how important their deeds are and by frail he means how weak and scrawny.
In stanza 4, the speaker speaks about “Wild men” these men were people who thought they were on their way to their dreams. Then at the end they realized it wasn’t what they really wanted. When they thought everything was alright it really wasn’t. It’s basically like regretting something that you wanted at first but at the end you wish you had never done it. In stanza 5, Thomas mentions similar lines to stanza 4, he mentions how you gain things in life you really want but at the end you wish you never gained those accomplishments. When you want a second chance you can’t have one.
In the last stanza, 6, the speaker mentions his dying father. The speaker represents “his father” with God. He looks up to his father. He is proud of his relationship with God (his father). He begs to God to please let him rebirth in life so that he could continue with his accomplishments and not get mislead. He looks up to God as his savior and as the only person who could help him when he is in need.

Literature has been being created for many centuries. It’s a term used to describe written or spoken material. It could be used to describe any type of writing. It’s mainly used to describe works of the creative imagination, including poetry, drama, fiction, and non- fiction literature. We tend to read literature because it represents a language or a tradition in an individual’s life. Literature is like having a learning experience. The amount of information we learn from books and literature is significant. We not only learn from books and literature but also from the comedies and tragedies of poems, stories and plays, and other famous works. Literature affects us in many other ways as well. When we read a sad poem or watch sad movie we sometimes feel upset or depressed afterward. This would also depend on the type of individual the person is. There are some individuals that show no emotion after watching something disturbing or disappointing. If these individuals were to use archetypes then maybe they could view the world from a different point of view. These would change whatever they view to an archetype. Every time they read or watch something they would always think of an archetype and who to compare that certain character to.
The background of someone in fiction would be labeled as an archetype. The templates for characters make them stand out so the reader could get familiar with them. These are important to use in literature because it gives the story a sense of meaning. Archetypes could sometimes be confused with stereotypes. Stereotypes are templates just like archetypes but a stereotype is categorized as an oversimplified conception of an idea. For example, in Western Fiction, the mainly used stereotype is where a brave cowboy is trying to save a girl from a pack of wild Indians and fights them and rides away into the sunset with the girl. An archetype has human qualities and interacts with its reality according to its nature. This would also mean how the “archetype” reacts to certain situations that are brought upon him within the work of art. Archetypes should be looked as how that character behaves and how they are seen upon from your own view within the text or film. Archetypes in works of literature are all different. They all depend on the character. Once you know what the personality of the character then you could decide what kind of archetype that character is. All archetypes have different traits. You wouldn't call someone who is evil and wants to destroy the world as “The Hero” archetype. It all depends on the personality and mood of the character.
The term "archetype" has its origins in ancient Greek. The root words are archein, which means "original or old"; and typos, which means "pattern, model or type". The combined meaning is an "original pattern" of which all other similar persons, objects, or concepts are derived, copied, modeled, or emulated. There are 12 different types of archetypes. The archetypes are The Innocent, The Orphan, The Hero, The Caregiver, The Explorer, The Rebel, The Lover, The Creator, The Jester, The Sage, The Magician, and The Ruler. Each type of archetype has their own set of meanings and role that they play. Also, each archetype is given their own goals and motto. These archetypes represent basic human motivations. These twelve are divided into three sets of four, Ego, Soul, and Self. When we encounter them in art, literature, sacred texts, advertising—or in individuals or groups—they evoke deep feeling within us. Studying archetypes can help you better understand your own journey in life. They can also increase communication between your conscious and unconscious minds. These archetypes give you a greater sense of meaning and fulfillment in life. Some individuals believe that by the use of archetypes they could inspire and motivate others. By using archetypes you are allowing yourself to cope more effectively with difficult people. This is a good thing because some people could be very hard-headed and difficult to understand sometimes. You get to have greater flexibility to respond to the challenges of life by the use of archetypes. Studies have shown that people who use archetypes have a greater bond with their family, friends, and even their workplace. Archetypes not only help individual differences but also buisnisses and organizations. They create a healthy and balanced organizational culture. It also promotes to inspire customer and employee loyalty. These all lead to a positive contribution to the world. Most individuals in life play several archetypes but they also have that main archetype that dominates their personality. It’s useful to know which archetype you play a role in because you gain insight on personal behaviors and motivations. Archetypes basically are what make a literary text stand out. Without them then texts would be boring and wouldn’t have a meaning.
Archetypal functions help literature because they help identify the background behind each character. Every character in a work of literature has a meaning behind them. They each have a certain role to play. Without archetypes then every character in a story would almost be basically the same if the story is romantic then there must be a character with the archetype of “The Lover”. Archetypes are the grounding point to a story. They set the main idea and the setting of the story. In every story there is at least one type of archetype. Without this then writers would have to find a different way to make the reader identify each character. Every character is different from one another. No character could ever be exactly the same. Archetypes are also important because they break things down into categories. When you mention the type of archetype a character is then it’s easier to understand. The classification makes a huge difference. The archetypes in the film “Stardust” have a big impact on the movie. You can point out which character is which archetype. The young man named “Tristan” would be labeled as “The Lover”, this is because he was set out on an adventure to find a star for his crush named Victoria. Tristan found the star for Victoria called Yvaine. On his journey back to Victoria, Tristan starts to realize he is not the only one looking for the star. There are a group of witches who would be as “The Witch” archetype. These witches want the star and want to eat her heart out. Another person set out to obtain the star is the son of the king of Stormhold. He told his son’s the first one to receive the star would be the new king of Stormhold. The son would be labeled as “The Ruler”. During Tristan’s whole adventure he realized who he truly loved. It wasn’t Victoria because she was selfish and only cared about herself. He was with his true love the whole time. The star Yvaine could be seen as the “The Magician” archetype. Her motto is to make things happen. Her goal is to make dreams come true. This highly represents the character Yvaine was playing. Without the help of archetypes this story would be hard to understand. Archetypes made it simple to understand because of the way each character has their own role that they play. Archetypal functions help identify what was going on throughout the film and how the film revolved.
In conclusion, archetypes play an important role in every type of literature. They are needed in order to get a better understanding of the film or literature. For example, in “Stardust” archetypes are shown all throughout the film. They are seen as one of the most important guidelines of writing a work piece. Archetypal functions are mainly used to describe the personality of a character in a work of literature. Without these functions then individuals wouldn’t be able to distinguish between what type of character they are reading about or seeing in a movie. This is why I believe archetypes are important because they make it easier to understand who the character is and what their main role in the story or in the movie. These functions come together to provide a better reading experience. Although it is a bit more comprehensive it is still more useful to have because of its role. “Stardust” is a great example for archetypes because there are so many to choose from. Each character in the film is a different type of archetype. This film is drawn between different types of archetypes. If there weren’t any archetypes in “Stardust” then I believe the film/story would have a totally different meaning. The ways the character developed all throughout the scenery is important because it shows how archetypal functions can change a character. These functions could dramatically change the whole main idea of the story while it still remains with the same character and all of their traits. Archetypes remain important in any film or story because of how easier they make it to distinguish characters from one another.

In the film “Stardust” the main character could be looked as the “The Lover” Archetype. In the beginning he is in love with a girl named Victoria. She tells him to find a shooting star for her and she would marry him. Tristan’s goes on a adventure to find the star which is named Yvaine. What Tristan did not know was that he eventually was going to fall in love Yvaine. He didn’t know that his whole adventure trying to get Yvaine back to Victoria was an adventure he did not regret. He didn’t like Victoria for her selfishness. Yvaine was the girl of his dreams, even though Yvaine could not cross over to the other side over the wall because she was a star. All the struggles that Tristan had to go through just to save Yvaine from everyone were important because it showed how much love Tristan had for Yvaine. Tristan had to risk his life in order to save Yvaine. Even though at the end of the film he didn’t really care for her and just wanted to get back to Victoria he then realized how much she really meant to him. At the end of the movie Tristan goes back over the wall to become the King of Stormhold and marries Yvaine and they live on for a long time. This shows how “The Lover” archetype in Tristan’s role.

In the poem “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” I believe the author Dylan Thomas is trying to give the reader a lesson in which to not take life for granted. The speaker is trying to say that once you’re an old man you should try to resist death the most you can. The only way to die, kicking and screaming for your life because you’re going to lose it. The father of the speaker is dying and is going through these phases.
At the beginning of the poem the speaker tells someone not to “go gentle into that good night”. The speaker is using the word “night” as a metaphor for death. In line 2, he states “old age should burn and rave at close of day” by this he means that the sunset could be the approach of someone’s death. The speaker believes old men should “burn and rave” when it comes to them dying and not just die peacefully.
In stanza 2, the speaker says “Though wise men at their end know dark is right” by this he meant that men know when they are about to die. In line 6 he is trying to say that when people die sometimes they didn’t achieve their goals in life. In the 3rd stanza, lines 7-9 are trying to explain how these men are shouting how good they would’ve became if they were allowed to live longer. The bay the speaker states is green because of the plants, seaweed, algae in it. The speaker states how the men would have had a potential future but they have to die as “frail deeds”.
In stanza 4, the speaker labels these men as “wild men”. These “wild men” were men who didn’t take in death peacefully. “They caught and sang the flight” which would mean that their life was going past them so fast they couldn’t tell. When they think everything is alright it really wasn’t life was just ending for them. In stanza 5, Thomas mentions another type of men “grave men”. These men could either mean that they are serious or dying. These men even though they are weak because of their blind eyes are trying to rage against death. They are trying to put a fight.
In the last stanza, 6, the speaker mentions his dying father. The speaker tells his father to try and stop his death. He begs him to cry. The death of the father is heartbreaking but if the father fights his death he would be labeled as heroic. The speaker tells his father not to submit to death and to instead fight it the most he can. He has to put up with death.
In conclusion, there are four different types of men when it comes to death. There are wise men who know when their time to die has come. Good men who wish they would of accomplished many more things in life. Wild men, who put up a fight when there about to die and trying to go out with a bang. Finally, grove men, these men are basically the heroes. They try to survive even though they know they are weak. The lesson learned in this poem is never take death as a joke and always fight for your life because you only have one.
